Revels North Adult and Children’s Choruses
Maureen Burford, Artistic and Music Director
Lindsey Warren, Assitant Music Director
Revels North presents programs of traditional music, dance and drama that encourage audience participation and community, and includes both auditioned and non-auditioned choruses that perform in the Upper Valley throughout the seasons.
Fall/Winter Season with Maureen Burford and Lindsey Warren
Auditions for our Christmas Revels Chorus are held in June each year. The chorus rehearses on Monday nights beginning in September.
Performances are created around a particular century and region of the world, and often include a mix of classical and folk traditions. In recent years, choruses have performed music from medieval France (2008), Scandanavia (2007), Appalachia (2006), and medieval England (2005). The chorus is part of the theater, and may also audtion for dance and theater roles in the production. There are 6 performances in December, in Spaulding Auditorium at the Hopkins Center.
The Christmas Revels includes a children’s chorus and a teen chorus, which hold auditions in September and June, respectively.
Winter Season with 8 Experienced Leaders
Our non-auditioned Revels Kids: World of Song program runs January through March in Piermont and West Lebanon, NH, and Hartland, Norwich, and Pomfret Vermont. This program includes singing, dancing and stories of a particular world culture and culminates in a shared performance built around the telling of a folk tale.
Summer Festival Choruses with Maureen Burford and Dan Hertzler
Summer choruses for children and adults/teens begin in late April and end in June with performances on the green in Norwich, and this year at a new location in Hartland Vermont. The music is an eclectic variety of folk, classical, and shape note singing traditions.
Singing World Music Training Program for Music Teachers and Directors
Launched in fall 2009, this program offers those who work with singers a chance to study world singing traditions with Patty Cuyler and Larry Gordon of Village Harmony.
