UVMC A Cappella

Director: Annie Arrington

UVMC A cappella is a new, non-auditioned ensemble designed for intermediate-level singers who are ready for a fun, yet challenging, choral experience. Rehearsals will focus on developing strong aural skills and musical independence through the use of Solfege and the Takadimi rhythm system, with minimal reliance on piano and no practice tracks available.

Although we are called UVMC A cappella, this ensemble is not a beatboxing or pop-style group. Instead, the name reflects our approach to learning songs without accompaniment, focusing on traditional choral repertoire that typically does not have written accompaniments.

This group will be best for singers who don’t mind singing their part alone or next to someone on a different part. It can be a fun challenge, and one that leads to real growth in your sight-singing skills.

UVMC A Cappella will rehearse just one hour each week, with some homework between rehearsals, and perform 2-3 songs in the Community Chorus at UVMC’s fall and spring concerts.
